A Silvia S14 fitted with RB and swapped for RB

This car is a proper mix material, with the wrong front end, the wrong engine, and most of the drivetrain changed, replaced, or hardened. The result is something confusing and cohesive, depending on how many coffees you’ve had.

Built by Total Create E.Prime in Hiroshima and painted by Tomo-san himself, this S14 is both an expression of its owner and a statement of what the tuning world is today. Walnuts.

You’ve probably seen this Rocket Bunny Pandem ‘Boss’ conversion before, and also the one Kei Muira designed for the Mazda FD3S, which looks like an RX-7 has been rammed into the back of an RX-3.

Apparently the inspiration for the design of the S14 Boss kit came from the Plymouth Barracuda, it’s easy to see the resemblance, and I personally think it transforms the Silvia beautifully. It’s not just a two-minute makeover, but serious plastic surgery. Gone is the S14’s ’90s-era pointed nose, replaced by a chunky brick wall of a front end, shorter by a few inches.

The painting is bold to say the least, but you have to give it up because the finish is pretty impressive considering Tomo-san is just an amateur gunslinger. What’s even more impressive is that all those sponsor and parts supplier names on the side of the car aren’t vinyl decals, they were hand-painted.

Pandem 6666 wheels (by Enkei) in a 17×9.5-inch setup are wrapped in 255/40R17 Zestino Gredge 07R semi-slicks at all four corners. Tomo-san uses Silk Road coil springs with 12K front and 10K rear springs, as well as an arsenal of chassis-stiffening components to keep things straight when the S14 is on its side.

There are also custom braces around the strut towers, with the rear strapped to Saito’s full roll cage.

Until the end of the business, Silvia’s original SR20DET has been exchanged for a more powerful RB25DET. According to Tomo-san, the Nissan 2.5L turbocharged six makes a modest 370 hp, but I’m sure there’s room for more power given the hardware, which includes a turbocharged HKS GT-RS and Tomei cams.

This car lives its life burning mounds of rubber, but in the safest way possible: on the track. As part of the Hiroshima Review drift team, he’s not just an eye-catcher; the S14 car throws itself like a rag doll at every opportunity. However, partying so hard takes its toll, and Tomo-san told me that he’s had his nose reconstructed a couple of times.

Every time he has a scuffle with a sidewall, he dusts himself off and goes back to drinking gallons of high-octane gas and looking for a fight around every corner. Is awesome.
